How experiential learning is the new future of education

‘Learning through experience’ or ‘learning through reflection on doing’ is what we call as experiential learning. The term gained importance ever since the former Governor of RBI and now a celebrated author, Mr. Raghuram Rajan said that education should be experiential in nature. His thoughts made it clear that one of the leading economists of the country thinks that for real-life challenges, students need to put their ideas into practice and get the maximum benefit out of it. Sanskriti University is one of the premier institutions of the country. We take it on us to provide our students with the best approaches. Talking about experiential learning, one must know what it is about. Skills like communication, networking, engaging in teamwork, planning, etc. can’t be theoretically taught to students. One must know that the ability to master all these skills comes only through experience. These are, what we call, practical skills. When these skills are interwoven with academic excellence, our country produces gems. So, in a way, we can see how experiential learning is becoming the future of education.

The next question that we have to deal with is, ‘what are various ways in which this kind of learning can help?’

 ● Personalized Training

When we start teaching children the art of learning by doing, we start noticing how every child is different. When teachers tell their students to accept their responsibility towards the environment by telling them to plant more trees, they start seeing how each child responds to the act. Not only will this help the child gain the attention of the teacher, but it will also get embedded in his/her mind. The next time when they are given another task, they will eventually be a better performer and will be able to learn things better.

 ● Mastering Skills for the future

We do believe that you need to have exceptional command over different languages but taking part in a speaking challenge or participating in a car making challenge rather than reading about how cars are being made, will help better. Not just at graduation level, we have to incorporate such activities that motivate the students to ‘do more’ at the grassroot level or the school level. In this way, we can make our students ready for workplaces way before their internships will make them.

 ● Helping them adapt

One of the greatest things about experiential learning is that it helps you adapt better. In this fast-paced world, everyone wants to be the Jack of all trades. Project-based learning helps students gain experiences in different projects and develop their skills irrespective of the future role that they have decided for themselves. Later on, when they choose their specific career, they can actually go beyond their roles and adapt quickly.

As an institution that wishes to promote this kind of learning, we at Sanskriti  have started practicing what we preach. And it gives us joy to say that we will soon master this new learning technique and make the future of education better.
